Who was August BrAun?
Born in the mid-19th century in the Austrian province of Tyrol, Braun moved to Sarajevo with his wife Maria in 1878. In 1879, Braun opened the first brickyard in Sarajevo, with the maximum production capacity of 2 million bricks. One year later, Braun opened a construction material company. Braun was famous for imprinting his initials „A B“ into bricks made by his company, and after falling in love with Maria, he began imprinting hearts, too. Using these bricks, Braun constructed one of the largest and most beautiful buildings in Sarajevo. He named the building Marijin dvor (Maria’s palace) after his wife Maria.
